Any Video Converter Professional
Any Video Converter Professional isn’t the largest or most comprehensive video converter software we evaluated, but what it lacked in features and output selections it made up for in simplicity and efficiency.
Anyone with a PC, iPod or Windows based media device could benefit from Any Video Converter Professional. Its main purpose is to convert videos downloaded on your computer to compatible formats for your MP3 or portable media player. Any Video Converter Pro also includes a simple tool to import videos directly from YouTube.
Any Video Converter Pro is slightly easier to use and the YouTube download tool is great, the software’s minimal selection of output options kept it out of the top spot.
Any Video Converter Pro includes one of the most comprehensive lists of input files we reviewed and is one of the few products we evaluated that received a perfect score in this category. You can convert almost any video file imaginable including WMV (Windows Media Video), AVI (with Xvid and DivX codecs) MPEG 1 and 2, MOV (QuickTime), MP4 (iPod and PSP), RM (RealMedia) and more.
Any Video Converter Professional is also one of the few applications that had absolutely no problem converting FLV (Flash Videos) that were already downloaded to our hard drive or imported directly from a YouTube URL. You can also import flash videos from MetaCafe and NicoVideo.
Although we gave Any Video Converter a full score for its input files, we are disappointed that it is unable to convert audio files.
Since there are no media players that will exclusively play MOV, RM or VOB files, these options were excluded as outputs. Additionally, you cannot adjust your video output size when you select to convert to iPod. Because the software does not output to MOV QuickTime and you are limited in adjusting the video dimensions on the MP4 selection, we would not suggest this software to Mac users.
Some features we would like to see Any Video Converter add in future versions include editing tools and the ability to merge multiple files into one large file.
We had no problems using Any Video Converter. All of your output options are clearly labeled in the upper right-hand corner and when you import files it will only display those that are compatible.
Any Video Converter’s output profiles are organized according to device or player like Microsoft Xbox 360, Apple iPod, Sony PSP and so on. This organization makes it very easy for novice users with little knowledge of file formats. Simply find your compatible device and select “convert.”
The interface is intuitive, all of your previous conversions are filtered and saved in specific folders located on the left side of the screen, and those conversions are also filed into specific default folders in your “Documents” section on your computer.
What we really like about Any Video Converter is all the features and options you really need are located directly on screen. All advanced features are located in the lower right-hand side of the screen and are easily adjusted using drop down boxes.
Any Video Converter is a powerful little program that achieves what it sets out to do: convert several different file types into formats compatible with your favorite media players. And although it doesn’t play audio files, for the price, novice users can’t go wrong.
